Tie kitchen string around beef in 4 places.
Season with 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper.
Heat 1 teaspoon oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the beef and cook, turning occasionally, until browned on all sides, 6 to 8 minutes.
Transfer to the prepared pan.
Let rest 10 minutes before slicing.
Meanwhile, heat the remaining 2 teaspoons oil in the skillet over medium-high heat.
Add shallot and cook for 30 seconds.
Pour in wine, bring to a boil and cook until nearly evaporated, about 3 minutes.
Remove from heat, add butter and swirl until melted.
Remove the string and slice the beef.
Serve with the mushroom sauce.
